admin News

A total of 34 retailers put up our decal at Compass Point Mall on the 6th of June. Additionally, our ‘Guide Dog Friendly Business’ decals were pasted on all the entrance doors of the mall.

On Sunday, 6th of June, we hosted our first ‘Friendly Decal Campaign’ at Compass Point Mall. Mr Douglas Moody, General Manager of FMC Technologies, the Title Sponsor for the event, presented a cheque of $20,000 to Prof. Francis Seow-Choen, President of the Guide Dogs Association of the Blind. Also present was Ms Elaine Wong, Centre Manager of Compass Point Mall, Venue Sponsor for the event. Prof Seow presented Certificates of Appreciation to Mr Moody and Ms Wong.

Prof Seow gave a welcome speech. This was followed by a talk by Ms Jamie Adams, our Orientation & Mobility Specialist. She spoke about her experiences in giving O&M training to our beneficiaries. Mr Alvin Ng and Ms Lim Lee Lee, two of our beneficiaries, shared about their experiences with blindness, and their hopes about getting Guide Dogs.

Mr Kua Cheng Hock, owner of Singapore’s only Guide Dog, Kendra, spoke about his experiences. He encouraged the public to accept the influx of Guide Dogs that will soon begin in Singapore.

The purpose of the event was to increase awareness of Guide Dogs and lay the ground for more Guide Dogs to come in. At the end of the year, two more Guide Dogs will be coming to Singapore, and we are bringing in two more at the start of next year. In addition, we are aiming to bring in five more Guide Dogs by the end of next year. This would make a total of 11 Guide Dog teams in Singapore by the end of next year.

The highlight of the event was the launch of the ‘Friendly Decal Campaign’. 35 Volunteers from FMC Technologies, together with 7 of our beneficiaries, helped distribute our ‘Guide Dog Friendly Business’ decals to all the shops in Compass Point Mall. Of these shops, 34 put the decal up immediately. To see a list of supporting shops, click here.

Furthermore, decals were placed on all the entrances to Compass Point Mall.
